The slope stability analysis of rocks is vital for designing safe slopes in openpit mines. A proper slope design not only leads to improvements in slope stability and safety but also reduces costs, extends the life of mines and decreases the stripping ratio (Bye and Bell, 2001, Naghadehi et al., 2011). The practical approach to slope stability is guided by the basic geological data, geo-technical characteristics of the slope mass, ground water details and a good measure of engineering judgment. The paper presents in brief the slope stability studies conducted by the author indifferent Indian opencast mines in limestone and iron ore sectors. Rajamandala Limestone in Padalarang area in Indonesia has a long history of mining and exploitation. Most Rajamandala Limestone mining is performed in open-pit. Slope stability is often a major issue in an open-pit mine. The stability of the open-pit mine slope must be maintained so as not to disrupt the mining process.
